Capital Management Services Updates Website to Meet ADA Accessibility Standards

Capital Management Services (CMS) is committed to our consumers and is proud to introduce our newest website update integrating user accessibility features in compliance with the American Disabilities Act (ADA) and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1. The new features will expand the access of all consumers to important information and documents within the website.

Specific User Profile Adjustments

Our new accessibility options provide not one, but six different user profiles available to our consumers. These profiles allow easier navigation for people with vision impairment, cognitive disability, ADHD, seizures, and blind users. For example, a person with visual impairments like cataracts, tunnel vision, or glaucoma may need more color contrast, enhanced visuals, or different page layouts in their profile. For those with ADHD or Neurodevelopmental disorders, the profile helps significantly reduce distractions to enhance users’ ability to browse, read, and focus on the essential elements of the website. Consumers even have the option to make specific content, color, and orientation adjustments for more of a customized experience if more adjustments are needed. 

Automated Functionality

CMS partnered with Branding Arc, a marketing firm for businesses in the accounts receivable industry, to integrate our Accessibility tools. The team at Branding Arc will continue to provide scans that will locate and fix any accessibility and compliance errors after the initial ADA integration. This ensures that the website maintains compliance with accessibility standards. To make sure ADA accessibility is available across all types of devices, the service extends to mobile, tablets, and desktop devices.

The Importance of Web Accessibility in ARM industry

While many companies like CMS are upgrading to more fair and inclusive websites, these standards are currently only recommended guidelines and not yet a requirement. In the Accounts Receivable Management industry, web accessibility can be used to increase communication options and financial literacy among all of its consumers. Below are helpful definitions and references of the legislation and organizations surrounding ADA and accessibility compliance:

• WCAG 2.1– WCAG stands for the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines and it sets the standard for most countries around the world. The WCAG was created by the World Wide Web Consortium, or the W3C. WCAG 2.1 is the most up-to-date version. 

• ADA stands for the Americans with Disabilities Act and was signed into law by President George Bush in 1990. ADA essentially prohibits the discrimination of anyone based on ability or disability. 
• Section 508 was an amendment to the Rehabilitation Act of 1978, addressing technology and accessibility. (It was most recently updated in 2017)
